Elementary Music
Mr. McMahon
My Bio:
Hello, and welcome to the elementary music page! I am Mr. McMahon (Mac), the music specialist at Crestview Elementary. I was born and raised in Waco, Texas, where I graduated from Midway HS. I attended Mclennan Community College, where I was an active member of musicals, operas, and the select choir. Once I completed my Associate of Fine Arts-Music, I transferred to Tarleton State University, where I received my Bachelor of All-Level Music Education.
I joined the Crestview family in 2017 as a music teacher. Over the years, I received two grants to help the music department grow for our students, and I was awarded the 2020-2021 Campus Teacher of the Year award. In addition to music, I am the campus title 1 coordinator, UIL coordinator, family event coordinator, and teacher leader.
About My Class:
When you step into my classroom, you will see students share a love of learning music. When students step through the door, they know they are in a safe place where they can express their talents and are expected to encourage their peers. I accommodate all learners and their interests using instruments, such as recorders, pianos, xylophones, drums, and various percussion instruments. In addition, we do vocal singing from various genres and use technology. To show our campus appreciation of diversity, we conduct several performances each year, including Hispanic Heritage, Thanksgiving, Christmas/holiday, Motown, and Kindergarten graduation.
My mission is to encourage all my students to develop an appreciation for all music and to build their musical abilities. Studies show that students who are involved in some form of fine arts program will do better in school, both academically and socially. Therefore, I encourage my students to pursue a band or choir when they move on to junior and high school.
Please contact me to learn more about my program or how you can be involved. When families and teachers come together for their children, we are steps closer to helping them succeed in and outside school.
